Born in San German on September 15, 1843, daughter of Sebastián Rodríguez de Astudillo and Carmen Ponce de León. She was a big figure of the Puertorican history standing out in the literature and politics of the country. Been a defender of the independence ideals for Puerto Rico she suffers the exile in three different occasions with her husband, Bonocio Tio. Due to her involvement with the Spanish Government she was able to get the governor General Palacios remove from his position. In 1887, under the new governor General Contreras, was the most important influence to get some political prisoners free. Between the prisoners were Ramón Baldorioty de Castro and Santiago R. Palmer. She was a very good friend with José María de Hostos and José Martí.
In 1868 , during the "Grito de Lares" Lola Rodríguez de Tió wrote one of the letters of our National Anthem which was known as "La letra revolucionaria" (The revolutionary words) or "La Patriótica" (The Patriotic) and is given to her to be one of the designers of the Puertorican flag. In 1895 she gets involve in the Cubans and Puertoricans independence movements and she is nominated as honorary president of the "Club Político Riuz Rivera". Between the years of 1895 and 1989 (Cuban Independence War) she was the secretary of the "Club Caridad" (Charity Club) standing out in helping the Cubans combatants against the Spanish Government. She also organized a Red Cross Chapter. Due to her efforts toward the Cuba Independence she is recognized immensely. She lived in the Havana Cuba from 1899 until she dies on November 10, 1924. At the present her rests are buried in Cuba. Her husband, Bonocio Tió dies in 1905. She procreated with her husband Bonocio two daughters, Patria Tió, who inherit all her literatures masterpieces, and Mercedes Tió who died at the age of three years old.
